My Two Cents on the Economy

For far too long, the focus has been taken off of the average, working class, American citizen and centered on creating a workforce beyond our shores. There, the labor is cheap, unsafe and often performed by minors, or those forced into servitude. These seemingly "lucrative" and "cost saving" actions overseas have come at a terribly high price. That price is jobs here at home.

When was the last time any of us really paid attention to where the products we are buying are being manufactured from? How did our elected officials allow this to happen? Or, should the question be, "how did we, the voting public, become so lethargic to this nightmare?"

We all must become more engaged in the dealings of our elected officials. We all must take the time to educate ourselves about the policies that our elected officials stand for, so that we can make informed decisions. We all must let our voices be heard and vote out of power those who introduce and push legislation that hurts American workers, but continues to line the pockets of large corporations who are greedy and unmindful of the harm that they are doing to their own country.

Events Booked + Opportunities To Make Your Voice Heard!

I'm excited to announce that several events have been booked and I'm hoping that you will try to attend some of them.

A number of the events that have been booked are meet and greets that are going to take the form of a town hall meeting.  I would really like for these engagements to, not only provide you with a chance to get to know a little more about me and my policy stances, but to also allow me to hear you express your concerns about our local communities and about our nation in general.

All of my meet and greets are free to attend.  More information for these engagements can be found at:

One other event that I'm very excited about is my very first campaign fundraising event.  And, it's going to be a fun one!

On Friday, June 1, I will be hosting a Bowl-a-thon at Campani's Legacy Lanes in Bridgeton, New Jersey.  The event will start at 8pm and participants will have a chance to win a cash prize!  Tickets are $25 and will include 3 bowling games, shoe rental, and automatic entry for a chance to win a cash prize.  For more information, or to get tickets, visit www.violahughes.com/bowlathon.

CANDIDATE HUGHES VOICES HER OPINION...(Speaks Out About 2012 Republican Budget Blueprint)

Press Release Written by Tiffanie Thompson-Thomas

The 2012 Cut Spending Bill, introduced by Congressman Paul Ryan, Republican from Wisconsin, proposed to fundamentally overhaul Medicare, which will eliminate social welfare reform programs for the poor. This will allow steep drops in taxes for the rich meaning the poor will again be negatively affected, and senior citizens will see drastic cuts in Medicare/Medicaid. Viola Hughes thinks that “this budget targets programs to hurt those less fortunate while at the same time sustains the wealthiest among us!” Donald Trump has even called this bill “catastrophic and disastrous”. The Bill passed 235-193 even with every Democratic voting “NO!”

Candidate Hughes states, “Again we can depend on LoBiondo to vote for such a bill. We, in the 2nd Congressional District, can no longer afford to have Frank LoBiondo represent us in Congress.” Hughes is not the only one speaking out; Democratic Nancy Pelosi states “The Republicans’ Proposal breaks the promise that our country made to its seniors – that after a lifetime of work they will be able to depend on Medicare to protect them in retirement….The Republicans’ plan forces seniors to buy their health insurance from companies where the senior will be forced to pay twice as much for half the benefits. “

Viola Hughes says she is in possession of a video of Congressman Frank LoBiondo promising the good senior citizens of Cape May, NJ at a town meeting that he would “Not” vote on the then Pres. Bush’s Medicare Bill that would have directly negatively affected them. When LoBiondo voted in Washington he didn’t keep his word again and voted “Yes” for the Medicare Bill. Candidate Hughes starts to reflect saying, “This Cut Spending Bill is consequently no different from the former Pres. Bush’s Medicare Bill, when it comes to taking funds that belong to our senior citizens. We must remember that they are who literally paved the way for us to be where we are today. I don’t believe that we should throw them to the wayside just to cut some of the deficit when the richest among can and are willing to pay more.”

Up and Running

My website is now up and, with your help, I’m ready to push this grassroots campaign into full action! There is so much work that needs to be done and I can’t do it all alone. It will take all of us to get this campaign train rolling into the final stop, which is the congressional seat for New Jersey’s second district.

To give our campaign’s locomotive the fuel it needs, there must be volunteers willing to give their time and services, concerned citizens from all facets of life willing to become engaged with this election cycle, and…yes…DONATIONS.

With your help, our campaign will move full steam ahead and bring honesty, integrity, and commitment back into government!
